Broward College Alumni & Friends is proud to share that Volume 60 of Panku Magazine, Broward College’s art and literary magazine, has been honored as a REALM First Class magazine by the National Council of Teachers of English.

The 2024 REALM contest included nominations for 422 student magazines spread across 46 states and five countries. Panku was among the 125 magazines that received the contest’s highest distinction, REALM First Class.

Volume 60, published in the spring of 2024, celebrated 60 years of Panku magazine and featured works by students and alumni. Guided by faculty advisor Marjetta Geerling, the student editors-in-chief worked with Broward College Alumni & Friends to identify and contact former alumni artists and writers to ask for their participation in the anniversary issue.

Now alumna and graduate Alanna Robbert, editor-in-chief of Panku Volume 60, said “The REALM award has been a pleasant surprise,” said Robbert, the previous editor-in-chief. “I’m glad that the hard work that my team and I had put into Panku’s 60th issue has been recognized.”

Alumnus Chris Joseph Stancato whose poem was reprinted in the volume added, “Congratulations to the Panku team at Broward College on their REALM First Class award! This well-deserved recognition highlights the talent and dedication of the students, faculty, and staff. I’m honored that my poem was selected for inclusion and join in celebrating this wonderful achievement. Inspired by Tennyson’s words, ‘To live all the life one has, to live it frankly, freely, fearlessly, fully,’ I continue to write and explore.” Learn more.
