The Broward College Foundation voted to re-appoint George I. Platt, Managing Partner of LSN Partners, to its Board of Directors during its December 9, 2021 board meeting.
A resident of Fort Lauderdale and Waynesville, North Carolina, Platt has practiced law in Florida for the past 45 years, focusing on environmental and land use law and government affairs. He has been active in politics, including service as a Broward County Commissioner, Chair of the Broward Democratic Party, and Treasurer of the Florida Democratic Party.
Platt earned his Associate of Arts degree from Broward College in 1964 and in 1982 he was the first to be recognized by the college as a Distinguished Alumnus. He later earned his Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Platt joined the Peace Corps immediately following his graduation from UNC. He and his wife, Anne, did community development work in Colon, Panama. Platt attended law school in Boston, earning his Juris Doctorate from Northeastern University. He worked in legal services, including civil rights work at the Harvard Center for Law and Education.
Nancy R. O’Donnell, Broward College’s Vice President for Advancement and Executive Director of the Broward College Foundation, is thrilled to re-appoint Platt to Foundation Board. “We are honored to re-appoint Mr. Platt for a three-year term. His obvious passion for higher education, supporting our students and advocating for our community are evidence of the unlimited potential one can experience when education, ambition and hard work are put into action,” said O’Donnell. “We are very appreciative of Platt and his wife for being one of our donors and for endowing the Kate and Melina Platt Memorial Scholarship in honor of their late daughters so that other students can receive the financial support to complete their education.”
Platt truly understands the value of nonprofit in our community and is a well-respected advocate for public higher education as evidenced by his volunteer time and service as chair of the Florida Board of Community Colleges, chair of the Florida Atlantic University Foundation Board, board member of the Florida College System Foundation, trustee of Nova Southeastern University, and chair of the Florida Education Facilities Study Committee.
Platt’s three-year re-appointment on the Broward College Foundation board is effective immediately.
