We are pleased to announce Broward College’s outstanding faculty members who were recognized as the College’s 2023-2024 Professors of the Year. Each year, Broward College recognizes some of its best faculty who are accomplishing the mission of the mission of transforming students’ lives and uplifting our diverse community through teaching excellence and academic innovation. These full-time and adjunct faculty are nominated by our students and our colleagues and then are evaluated and interviewed by the Professor of the Year Committee which selects the award recipients.

Hannah Moody, Professor of the Year
AHCD Pathway – Speech
Hannah Moody, a dedicated educator, joined the Broward College family as a full-time faculty member in 2021. Her passion lies in empowering students through effective communication. With a master’s and bachelor’s degree in communication, both emphasizing rhetorical studies, she brings a wealth of knowledge to her role.
Professor Moody’s most significant achievement is helping her students recognize the intrinsic value and influence of their voices. Whether teaching public speaking or business communication, she fosters an environment where students discover their true potential.
In addition to her teaching responsibilities, Professor Moody serves as the Program Coordinator for Broward College’s New Media Communication degree. She also advises the Steelo Fashion Club, nurturing creativity and collaboration among students.
Beyond academia, Hannah Moody is an avid hockey fan. Her enthusiasm extends beyond the classroom as she contributes to the Florida Panthers’ game presentation team. Her commitment to education and her love for sports make her a dynamic presence on campus.
Michael Newman, Professor of the Year
AHCD Pathway – Communication
Michael Newman is on a mission to expand the world for his students. As an educator at Broward College and beyond, he leads them toward excellence in their new lives in the United States. Growing up in Toronto and Metro Detroit, surrounded by successful immigrants (including his wife) and having lived overseas, Michael gained a unique perspective on the challenges faced by those navigating a new language and culture. This perspective informs his teaching practices daily.
Upon returning to the US, Michael pursued a master’s degree in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages from Eastern Michigan University. In 2010, he joined Broward College, where he teaches English for Academic Purposes. Through his experience in the classroom, he recognized the need for ESL materials that transcend traditional textbooks. To address this gap, he authored “Michael’s English Handbook for English Language Learners,” which was finally realized in 2023. Additionally, he introduced individuated Vocabulary Journals in 2024, both of which are readily accessible on his website, MichaelsEnglish.org.
Michael’s passion extends beyond the classroom. He founded the Seahawk Speaking Society, a platform designed to help students discover themselves, build confidence as speakers, and ultimately explore entrepreneurial endeavors. His teaching philosophy aligns with Confucius’s timeless wisdom: “It does not matter how slowly you go as long as you do not stop.” Michael firmly believes that every aspect of life is a skill that can be learned, and progress is achieved through persistence.
Michael O’Neill, Adjunct Professor of the Year
SBSHS Pathway – Social Science
Michael O’Neill, an adjunct professor at Broward College, has been a dedicated member of the institution since January 2011. Born and raised in Guatemala, he later relocated to Michigan and eventually settled in Florida. His commitment extends beyond the classroom, as he actively participates in college initiatives. As a political science educator, he infuses his subject matter with real-world relevance, enriching the lives of his students. Furthermore, since 2014, Michael has served as a mentor and leader at the esteemed College Academy, Broward County’s premier public high school. His passion for education and student development shines through his multifaceted roles within the academic community.
Ruth Stewart, Adjunct Professor of the Year
AHCD Pathway – Communication
Professor Ruthie Stewart, a seasoned communication and speech educator, has devoted more than two decades to Broward College, where she serves as a dedicated speech professor. Her unwavering commitment to student success is evident in the supportive learning environments she creates, empowering students to reach their highest potential.
Beyond her teaching responsibilities, Professor Stewart wears multiple hats. She mentors students through the Take Stock in Children program, providing guidance and encouragement. As an advisor for the National Alliance for Mental Illness (NAMI) club at Broward College, she actively contributes to mental health awareness and advocacy. In the broader community, Professor Stewart’s impact extends further. She serves as a speech judge for Miami-Dade Schools, evaluating and nurturing young talent. Additionally, her passion for sports shines through as an optimist coach for flag football and soccer.
Not content with resting on her laurels, Professor Stewart is currently pursuing her Educational Doctorate in the Learning Sciences program at the University of Miami. Her commitment to personal growth and the advancement of her field remains steadfast, making her a true exemplar of lifelong dedication.

Reinaldo Ponce, Professor of the Year
STEM Pathway – Mathematics
Reinaldo Ponce, an associate professor at Broward College, is renowned for his unwavering commitment to his students and his innovative teaching techniques. His academic journey commenced at Tufts University, where he earned his bachelor’s degree, followed by a master’s in mathematics from Florida International University. Currently, Reinaldo is pursuing a Ph.D. in Curriculum and Instruction at Florida Atlantic University, with a research focus on student-centered instruction in higher education mathematics. Recently, he achieved a significant milestone by having his first publication accepted in the journal PRIMUS.
With over two decades of teaching experience, including twelve years at Broward College, Reinaldo’s passion lies in empowering students through creative pedagogical approaches. He played a pivotal role in developing new, student-centered liberal arts courses, demonstrating his unwavering dedication to both the institution and his students. Notably, Professor Ponce is a trailblazer in integrating Artificial Intelligence (AI) into the classroom, aiming to bridge achievement gaps prevalent in mathematics education.
Beyond academia, Reinaldo derives joy from studio arts, martial arts, and billiards. However, his current pursuit of a Ph.D. leaves little time for these hobbies. As a distinguished educator and researcher, Reinaldo Ponce continues to inspire colleagues and students alike, shaping the future of mathematics education with his visionary leadership.
Roumen Boudey, Adjunct Professor of the Year
AHCD Pathway – Visual Arts
Professor Roumen Boudev has been an integral part of Broward College since 2014, following his relocation from Michigan. Over the past decade, he has passionately taught a diverse range of art courses, including Studio Art (Drawing I, Painting I, Painting II, Life Drawing, 2D Design, and 3D Design), as well as Art Appreciation.
Roumen Boudev holds a Master of Fine Arts degree from the National Academy of Arts in Sofia, Bulgaria. His rigorous training and artistic sensibilities have shaped his remarkable career. His artistic journey has been marked by extensive exhibitions and prestigious awards across continents. His works have graced galleries and museums in the United States, Europe, and Asia. With an impressive portfolio of 27 individual exhibitions, his artistry resonates with audiences worldwide. His creations find a permanent place in esteemed collections, including those held by museums, corporations, and private collectors in 25 different countries.
For more than 28 years, Professor Boudev has been a dedicated educator, sharing his expertise in art and art history. His influence extends beyond borders, having taught at various academies, colleges, universities, and art centers across the United States and Europe. His commitment to nurturing young talent and fostering creativity has left an indelible mark on countless students. Among his notable projects, the fresco mural adorning the ceiling of Townsend Lobby at the Detroit Opera House stands out. This ambitious endeavor showcases his mastery of mural painting and captures the essence of contemporary art.
Professor Boudev’s artistic repertoire spans various mediums, including drawing, painting, printmaking, and mixed media. His versatility extends to 2D and 3D design, reflecting a holistic approach to artistic expression. Professor Roumen Boudev’s legacy is one of unwavering dedication, artistic brilliance, and a profound impact on the world of art and education. His contributions continue to inspire generations of aspiring artists and enthusiasts alike.
Mario Desrosiers, Adjunct Professor of the Year
STEM Pathway – Mathematics
Professor Mario Desrosiers was born and raised in Haiti. In 1999, he embarked on a transformative journey to the United States, driven by his unwavering commitment to academic and professional growth. His passion for mathematics led him to Florida International University (FIU), where he carved out an impressive educational trajectory.
In 2007, Professor Desrosiers proudly graduated from FIU with a Bachelor’s Degree in Mathematics. His insatiable thirst for knowledge propelled him forward, and he continued his studies at the same institution. In 2012, he earned a Master’s Degree in Curriculum and Instruction, specializing in Statistics.
Professor Desrosiers’ teaching journey began in 2014 when he joined Broward College as an adjunct professor. His expertise lies in Statistics, and he brings a dynamic approach to the classroom. Beyond the physical confines of the North Campus, he actively engages with the online campus community, fostering a collaborative and enriching learning environment.
In recognition of his leadership and dedication, Professor Desrosiers also serves as the Math Department Chair at the College Academy at Broward College. His commitment to education, combined with his Haitian heritage, makes him a remarkable asset to the academic community.
Judson A. Samuels South Campus
Dr. Rhonda Bobb, Professor of the Year
AHCD Pathway – ESL/Readings/SLS/English
Dr. Bobb is an Associate Professor of English for Academic Purposes (EAP) at Broward College’s South Campus. Her teaching portfolio includes courses in Grammar and Composition, Phonetics and Communication, Reading, and Student Life Skills (SLS).
Her journey in ESOL teaching and training began as an Interaction Leader at the University of Florida’s English Language Institute. With over 25 years of experience at Broward College, Dr. Bobb initially taught Accent Reduction #1 and #2 in the Continuing Education Department for speakers of English as a second language. She also contributed to the Title V Co-Op Grant, working with the Educator Preparation Institute’s alternative certification program.
Furthermore, Dr. Bobb has instructed ESOL Issues and Strategies I and II within the Teacher Education Program and at the Lingua Language Center located at Broward College’s Downtown Campus.
Eddie Robinson, Adjunct Professor of the Year
STEM Pathway – Mathematics
Professor Eddie Robinson, an Adjunct Professor of Mathematics at Broward College’s South Campus, has dedicated the past 12 years to shaping young minds. Born and raised in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, Professor Robinson’s journey began as a student at Broward College, where he pursued his A.S. degree in Mathematics while simultaneously making a name for himself on the basketball court as part of the Seahawks team. His passion for numbers led him to Florida Atlantic University, where he earned his B.A. in Mathematics in 1998.
Undeterred by the final buzzer of his basketball career, Professor Robinson continued his academic pursuits. He obtained his Master’s Degree in Education – Curriculum and Instruction in 2000, followed by another milestone in 2023: a Master’s Degree in Education – Educational Leadership from the American College of Education.
Within the hallowed halls of Broward College, Professor Robinson has found both inspiration and purpose. His commitment to teaching mathematics has spanned two decades, making him a seasoned professional in the state of Florida. His diverse teaching portfolio includes developmental math courses, nursing math courses, and specialized support for students with disabilities. As a devoted educator, he also spends time tutoring students in the math Academic Success Center. Beyond the classroom, Professor Robinson wears another hat—one of a proud father. His two daughters have followed in his footsteps, attending Broward College to further their own professional journeys. As a member of the BC family, Professor Robinson continues to ignite mathematical curiosity and foster a love for learning among his students.
Reginald Latortue, Adjunct Professor of the Year
AHCD Pathway – Communication
Reginald Latortue, a dedicated educator, holds a master’s degree in technology and TESOL from Barry University, with a special focus on integrating educational computer technology into teaching English to speakers of other languages. His journey began in 2005 when he embarked on teaching English for Academic Purposes at Miami Dade College. However, in 2011, Reginald decided to broaden his horizons and joined the Broward College family, where he continues to channel his unwavering passion.
Reginald’s teaching experience spans diverse cultural backgrounds, including international students and learners with varying styles of learning. His enthusiasm for infusing technology into language instruction is palpable, as he encourages his students to recognize the dynamic role of English proficiency in developing ideas and expressing individual strengths. His commitment to Broward College and its mission is unwavering.
Currently, Reginald thrives as a valued member of the ENC/EAP/SLS department at South campus and the Communication Department at Central campus. Beyond the classroom, he finds solace in preaching the Gospel, exploring new destinations through travel, and cherishing moments with family and friends.

Dr. Krzysztof Bryniuk, Professor of the Year
Business Pathway
Since 2014, Dr. Krzysztof Bryniuk, MBA, MAAC, MM, has been an integral part of Broward College. His multifaceted expertise spans Accounting, Finance, Business Management, and Economics. As a dedicated full-time professor at Broward College, he imparts knowledge while simultaneously managing his own accounting and tax services firm.
Dr. Bryniuk’s professional journey encompasses diverse sectors, including academia, banking, hospitality, and real estate. His proficiency extends to various accounting and tax software platforms, such as Sage Business Accounting, SAP Business, Microsoft Accounting, TaxProSlayer, DRAKE, and Quickbooks.
Educationally, Dr. Bryniuk holds a Doctor of Business Education from George Fox University in Oregon. He also earned a master’s degree in accounting and a master’s degree in business administration from Florida Atlantic University. His thirst for knowledge led him to complete graduate studies in marketing and finance at the Poznan University of Economics in Poland, as well as business economics at Harvard University.
Dr. Bryniuk’s research interests converge on finance, accounting, and macroeconomics. Beyond Broward College, he has shared his expertise with several other universities, both locally and internationally. His scholarly contributions include numerous academic articles accepted for publication by national and international journals.
In recognition of his outstanding contributions to education, Dr. Bryniuk was honored with the prestigious Endowed Teaching Chair award during the 2022-2023 academic year.
Glenn Roberts, Adjunct Professor of the Year
Public Safety Pathway
Glenn Roberts, a retired veteran of law enforcement in Broward County, has been an integral part of Broward College’s Institute of Public Safety since 2013. As an adjunct faculty member, he brings a wealth of experience and expertise to the institution. Initially joining as a law enforcement trainer, Glenn’s impact extended far beyond the classroom. He took on additional responsibilities, including authoring and instructing online courses within the criminal justice degree programs. His dedication to education and commitment to excellence have been unwavering.
Glenn’s journey at Broward College began as a student. He pursued academic excellence, earning his B.A. in Public Administration, M.S. in Management, and M.S. in Criminal Justice—all with honors. His firsthand experience as a student informs his teaching approach, allowing him to connect with learners effectively. Within his course delivery, Glenn prioritizes academic rigor and transparency. Drawing from his extensive background in law enforcement, he provides students with valuable insights into the public safety and domestic security professions. His practical knowledge bridges the gap between theory and practice.
Beyond the confines of the classroom, Glenn actively supports student recognition initiatives. His genuine interest in their success fosters a positive learning environment. Additionally, he contributes to enhancing the overall quality of the learning experience at Broward College by volunteering in multiple learner evaluation projects.
